Our ninth studio album “Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance” will be released on January 19, 2015 (Jan 20 in the North America) via Matador Records – the first to be released on Matador worldwide.
The album was produced and mixed at Maze Studios in Atlanta by Ben H. Allen III, best known for his work with Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective, and Raury, among others. Additional mixing was done with longtime collaborator Tony Doogan in Glasgow, and the album was mastered by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios.

In its highlight performance of the school year, the Barton Hills Choir from Austin, Texas performed Belle and Sebastian tunes for Stuart Murdoch in March at the SXSW film festival screening of God Help The Girl. At the Austin City Limits Music Festival this year, not only will the elementary school choir perform Belle and Sebastian tunes, but Stuart will join the kids during their set for an special pairing of unique musical sounds. The choir will perform at ACL on both Fridays – October 3rd and 10th. Hope you can make it!

We have very strong connections with ATP, and can’t wait to do another All Tomorrow’s Parties in one of our favourite places!
On sale today, there will be limited edition super early bird tickets priced at €60 + b/f (€85 + b/f incl. bus) for a weekend pass, giving international guests more time to secure flights and book accommodation. Once these run out, early bird tickets will follow at €90 + b/f and full price tickets at €110 + b/f.
The soundtrack features three new songs by Stuart, which are sung by the film’s cast: “Pretty When the Wind Blows”, “I Dumped You First”, and “I’m Not Rich”. The other songs are re-recorded or remixed versions of the album’s tracks performed by the cast. It also features the original version of Belle and Sebastian’s “Dress Up in You”, plus dialogue and bits of score from the film. The film stars Emily Browning, Olly Alexander, and Hannah Murray; it was produced by Barry Mendel (Rushmore, Bridesmaids).

God Help The Girl will have a special screening in Edinburgh followed by a live Belle & Sebastian set where we will perform some of our own songs alongside songs from the film (with God Help The Girl singers) at Edinburgh Corn Exchange during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The performance will be beamed across UK cinemas nationwide.

GOD HELP THE GIRL is a coming of age tale set in Glasgow over the course of one hazy summer. Written, directed and with original songs by Stuart Murdoch, lead singer of the group Belle and Sebastian, GOD HELP THE GIRL is a story of a young girls problems entering adult life, uniquely told through a soundtrack of indie pop. GOD HELP THE GIRL stars Emily Browning (Sucker Punch, Magic Magic), Olly Alexander (Great Expectations and forth coming The Riot Club) and Hannah Murray (Skins, Game of Thrones) and was produced by twice Oscar-nominated producer Barry Mendel (Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums). The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2014 and was awarded a special jury prize at the festival.
GOD HELP THE GIRL will be launching UK wide with a special live satellite screening across UK cinemas on 16 August 2014, followed by a nationwide release from 22 August 2014.
