Hi band! what can you tell me about mark knopfler, and about the english weirt band "the horrors" two different kinds of music but I like both, I would like to hear your opinion Well Leo, i don't know anything at all about the "the Horrors", but i'll respond to your first part. Or at least i'll let Cass, James and Eve respond.. ______________________________________________________________________ Excerpt from God Help The Girl

CASSIE'S ROOM, LATER - NIGHT

Cass burrows herself under the covers and Eve does the same. They stay like that for a second, then they emerge to get air. Cass has found something under the covers. James sits in the chair next the bed. They look like the louche queens and king of a baroque revival.

CASSIE
Want to hear my essay for Applied Music?
JAMES
Not a whole essay.
CASSIE
It’s about Romeo and Juliet.
JAMES
How come you had to do that for music?
CASSIE
We were studying it English one time, the play, and so I looked it up in Wikipedia..
JAMES
As you do..
CASSIE
(concurring)
As one does, and I saw that it was a song by Dire Straits. So i downloaded the song
JAMES
(eyebrows raised)
Illegally?
CASSIE
(firmly)
Legally, and I wrote my essay on that.
EVE
For English?
CASSIE
Yeah. I thought they would reward my initiative. Plus, the songs way shorter than the play
EVE
What d’ya get?
CASSIE
F. They didn’t like it at all..
Beat
CASSIE (CONT’D)
Buut.. Genius thing is that I recycled it for my Applied-Music-crappy-summer-school for losers essay. And I got an A!
JAMES
Oh. OK. You may read a little of it to us.

Cass stands up, clears her throat, and begins.

CASSIE
Romeo and Juliet is a song by the British band 'Dire Straits'. The song was written by the band’s lead singer, Mark K-nop, Mark K-nopple..
JAMES
Mark Knopfler
CASSIE
...Mark Knopfler (who was born in Glasgow, I may add) The song starts out with a pleasant melody played on a resonator guitar..

Ten minutes later

CASSIE
With its many literary allusions, combined with a down-at-heel vocal delivery, Romeo And Juliet was quite an untypical hit single. It remains a classic.

Cassie sits down.

JAMES
He’s a song writing deity..
(James shakes himself up a little)
Don’t tell any of my friends I said that.
EVE
You don’t have any friends
JAMES
I’ve got friends
EVE
I’ve never seen them. Cass, have you seen them?
CASSIE
Never seen them.
EVE
So, did this guy write any tunes as good.
JAMES
One. One and a half.
EVE
So how can you proclaim him Deus!
JAMES
A man needs only write one genius song: one song that lives forever in the hearts of the populace, to make him divine.
CASSIE
Or woman.
JAMES
Or woman... That’s the rule about songs.
EVE
Then it should be easy.
JAMES
Not easy. No. Many men have lived empty wasted lives in attics trying to come up with classic pop songs. What they don’t realise is; it’s not for them to decide. It’s God. Or the god of music. Or the part of god that concerns himself with music. Or the muse. Or somebody..whatever. That’s why the hitmaker has to be considered part divine. Because the divine spoke through him.

Eve and cassie look thoughtful

CASSIE
A preposterous notion.
EVE
(dreamily)
But a good one.

In other news, Belle and Sebastian play their first show in four years, their first show ever in Finland, at the Ruisrock Festival, Turku. We're soundchecked, and we're kinda ready, so here we go...
