Sad. Happy sad! It's been a privilege to share in some small part with the life of the man. We were lucky to have him. He's dead! What a shock! So many people were in love with him! He did feel like one of the family, didn't he? I'm just sitting here thinking about all the great music that he got me into, all the great music that he played. The essence of Peel, the epic swathes of ambition down the years. That's just me! He must have got so many people in the same way. Terrific guy. Very, very funny. Very good at his job! What a storyteller. He's playing Bogshed and Death By Milkfloat in heaven tonight. God Bless you John, man. You brought us all up. We're your family. Guys are shedding tears, stockbrokers and hippies, traindrivers and car salesmen. Creeping in to listen to your show. Now you ain't there. What's Christmas going to be like without the Festive Fifty? Bloody highlight of my year for my crappy youth. The Cocteaus chiming down the ether. The Mary Chain and glorious New Order. Sifting through the hardcore, the noisecore, the trance and the reggae for a gem. Finger on the pause. 'Fledgling Circus' 'Velocity Girl' 'Primitive Painters''Ceremony' 'Birthday' 'You Made Me Realise' 'Rebel Without A Pause' "Voodoo Ray' 'Speeding Motorcycle' 'Hey Antoinette' 'My Sister' I want to walk all night listening to your voice. I want to hear your theme tune play. That little bluesy tune. It'll just make me cry even more. Like you after Hillsborough. No one who heard you will ever forget that, man. You will never walk alone.
